FOR THE LAST TIME EVER?
FREE ACCESS TO
THE 1911 ENGLAND & WALES CENSUS!
Findmypast are allowing FREE access to
the 1911 Census and ALL the other resources for which you'd normally need a
subscription, but only while England are
playing in the World Cup. There's also a great opportunity to save 15% on
ALL findmypast subscriptions - see below for full details (offer ends Sunday).
England's fourth game (which could quite
possibly be their last, judging by the bookmakers' odds) is on Sunday 27th June, and the free access
will be for any continuous 90 minute period you choose between 9am on Sunday morning
and 9am on Monday morning. You must register - if you haven't already done so -
before midnight on Saturday.
To be on the safe side you need to start
by 7.30am on Monday to make sure you get your full 90 minutes, though you might
be lucky if you log-in after 7.30 but before 9am. My advice is to sign in
sooner rather than later, just in case there is a last-minute rush. The period
before, during, and after the match is likely to be exceptionally busy - so
avoid this if you possibly can.
IMPORTANT: these are all London times,
so you need to adjust them to your local time - see below for some examples.
Check this page for the latest news,
just in case there any changes to the arrangements.
Time differences - North America
New
York is 5 hours behind London, and California is 8
hours behind. Thus the free access will begin and end at 4am if you are on the
East Coast, and 1am if you are on the West Coast. This
means that wherever you are in mainland North America you can choose anytime on
Sunday morning, afternoon, or evening.
Time differences - Australia and New
Zealand
If
you are in Australia or New Zealand you are almost half a day ahead of London.
This means that for most of you the offer will start on Sunday evening and end
on Monday evening. For example, Auckland is 11 hours ahead, so the offer will
start at 8pm on Sunday, and end 8pm on Monday. Sydney is 9 hours ahead, so the
offer will start and end at 6pm. In Perth, which is only 7 hours ahead of
London the offer will run from 4pm Sunday to 4pm Monday.
Click here to visit the special offer page at the findmypast
site. You will need to register at least 9 hours before the offer commences if
you haven't already done so; if you have already registered at findmypast you
won't need to register again, but I suggest you log-on well ahead of time to
make sure that you have the right password.
Of
course, at findmypast you can search free at any time, so you don't have to
wait for the offer period to start - and the more you can do in advance, the
better use you'll make of the 90 minutes of free access. But once you sign in
during the offer period you have just 90 minutes to look up the records and
save them - in this game there is no half-time, no stoppages, and no time added
on!
REMEMBER TO MAKE A NOTE OF THE CENSUS REFERENCES!
I recommend that you read my article on the 1911 Census on the Help & Advice page at the LostCousins site, as it has lots of
tips to help you get more out of the census. It also shows you where to find
the census references - which are absolutely essential when it comes to
entering your relatives on your My
Ancestors page.
AND
DON'T LOG-IN UNTIL YOU'RE
READY TO START SEARCHING!
If you've chosen to be logged-in
automatically when you visit the findmypast site, then your 90 minutes will
start the moment you visit the site.
